PIM Implementation
The Problem Statement:
An industrial manufacturer needed a Product Information Management Platform to handle all of their product data. The company had 4 major divisions that sold vastly different products. They also didn’t have a traditional new SKU rollout process: Most of their SKUs were refreshed at varying times based on customer focus groups. The customer had chosen a PIM platform, and they needed help with the implementation.
The Solution:
TrailBreakers brought a 4-phased approach to this implementation:
- Discovery – Ensure a full understanding of the use cases, source systems, destinations, and integration strategy for this business. This included in-depth workshops for data, inbound connections, process workflow, use roles and permission design, data governance, and outbound connections. From this came a data model design, an integration plan, a process design, and a phasing strategy for the project.
- Design and Build – Over 3 months, TrailBreakers worked with the business and technology teams to configure the PIM platform, build connectors to upstream and downstream ssytems, and implement process flows that ensured product data was complete and accurate before pushing to additional channels.
- Roll-Out – TrailBreakers provided user and admin training, UT, UAT, and Smoke testing, as well as hypercare for launch to ensure everything went according to plan.
- Support – TrailBreakers provides ongoing support for new business initiatives, new user training, and support for both platform and non-platform challenges.
The Results:
The customer achieved a single source of truth for product images for the first time, avoiding a costly Digital Asset Management project. They also were provided an innovative solution to manage SKU refreshes and service parts, that properly linked the right service parts to the right products by serial range. This reduced the time to market for products by 64%, reduced the cost of managing images by 33%, and reduced service part returns by 68%.
