A large manufacturer of hand and power tools had a large variety of products that required categorization and attribution that could be used for their Content Management System as well as syndication. With no resources available internally to build this taxonomy and no understanding of the best practices involved, the company reached out to TrailBreakers to education internal stakeholders on the value as well as build the product taxonomy to their specific requirements.

The Solution:

TrailBreakers met with 14 different groups within 3 brands at the client to understand the entire need set of the entire company. We then proposed a 3 layer hierarchy and a plan to apply the correct attribution to cover global and category specific attribution for both their internal uses (CMS, Print) as well as syndicating to DIY retailers.

TrailBreakers then trained an internal resource on the best practices and processes needed to maintain this product taxonomy over time.

The Results:

THe entirety of the customer’s product assortment, including new assortments in the R&D phase, were incorporated into a single taxonomy for the first time. This allowed for processes to be developed to speed go-to-market timing as well as define what a complete product record would entail. This allowed the customer to connect their PIM to the CMS with the right attribution to enhance their user experience, while reducing the effort required to manage syndication to their retail partners by 70%.
